Therefore, the Downtown Waynesboro Committee is pleased to have the opportunity in assisting the locally-owned small businesses of our community. Waynesboro is an affiliate of Tennessee’s Main Street program. It is a nonprofit organization that has been working for over a decades to help revitalize downtown Waynesboro. Their mission is to revitalize, enhance and promote Downtown Waynesboro as the best place to visit, work, shop, play and live through community partnerships. The Downtown Committee is comprised of dedicated volunteers who work hard to make a difference in the community. They are community event organizers and passionate advocates with goals to strengthen the community by provides training, support and grant opportunities to assist in revitalization efforts for small businesses and building owners located in the designated project area. Putting the spotlight on the small “mom and pop shops” within the defined project area is a delight for the Downtown Waynesboro Committee. Waynesboro’s designated project area concentrates on a historic, traditional, commercial district that is over 100 years old. The approved area includes the north, south, east and west sides of the public square, East Hollis Street, and South High Street. With numerous retail locations to choose from in downtown Waynesboro there is an assortment of shops to acquire all you need. Clothing and home décor boutiques, dining selections, salons, specialty shops and services and antiques can be found in the shops located around the court square and the downtown area. Therefore, let’s take a walk around Downtown Waynesboro and highlight the locally owned businesses situated in the heart of Waynesboro. The upper part of the south side you will find the Wayne County Museum. The museum is presently displaying the music history of Wayne County. It boasts highlight achievements and accomplishments of local artists. Many instruments are on display along with several archival items, artifacts and memorabilia. Admission is free but they do accept donations. Come in and research Wayne County’s music history and celebrate our music heritage and many more musicians while on exhibit at the Wayne County Museum.
